The Traumatology, Orthopedic Surgery, and Sports Medicine Service has been reorganized into 10 specialized units that enable the diagnosis and treatment of all injuries related to the musculoskeletal system.

The Vithas Xanit International Hospital in Benalmádena (Málaga), in its ongoing commitment to offering patients excellent healthcare and accredited quality, has reorganized its portfolio of services in the traumatology, orthopedic surgery, and sports medicine unit to offer the best specialized treatment for musculoskeletal disorders. The service has been reorganized into 10 specialized units which, with the support of a multidisciplinary team, enable the diagnosis and treatment of all injuries affecting the musculoskeletal system, whether traumatic or of other etiology.

“In the traumatology, orthopedic surgery, and sports medicine department at Vithas Xanit International Hospital, we have more than 20 professionals. Our patients include young people with high sporting and work demands and older people with osteoarthritis-related conditions who, in many cases, require joint replacements,” explains Dr. Antonio Narváez, head of the hospital’s traumatology, orthopedic surgery, and sports medicine department. “Given this wide range of ages and pathologies, specialization within the department is necessary in order to perform surgeries with the highest quality standards. To this end, our department has 10 units specializing in anatomical regions and pathologies, which allows orthopedic surgeons to gain extensive experience and achieve the best possible results,” adds the specialist.

Dr. Narváez also explains how ongoing training and adherence to standardized protocols evaluated by competent bodies ensure that the specialists who form part of this unit are up to date in their respective subspecialties. “Internally, as a service, we discuss the most complex cases in clinical sessions and update the knowledge that each unit contributes, which enriches and keeps our training up to date,” explains the head of the unit.

Traumatology, Orthopedic Surgery, and Sports Medicine Units

The Service has the following units:

Arthroscopic surgery unit, where arthroscopic joint procedures are performed.

It offers regenerative medicine treatments such as platelet-rich plasma and stem cells for the treatment of cartilage injuries.

Spine surgery unit: where spinal conditions are treated, from herniated discs to spinal disc replacement, spinal fixation, minimally invasive spine surgery, treatment of osteoporotic fractures, scoliosis, etc.

Joint Reconstructive Surgery Unit: This unit performs prosthetic surgery on the hip, knee, shoulder, and other joints.

Upper extremity unit: where shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand conditions are treated.
