Resident physicians and specialists in orthopedic surgery and traumatology participated in the training.
The Vithas Xanit International Hospital, through its orthopedic surgery and traumatology department, has organized a practical course on knee arthroscopy, which took place at the Official College of Physicians of Malaga and was attended by final-year residents and specialists in orthopedic surgery and traumatology.
The objective of this training is to explore the different options for grafts, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction of the knee, and meniscal suturing.
This course, co-directed by Dr. Antonio Narváez, head of the traumatology and orthopedic surgery department at Vithas Xanit International Hospital, and Dr. Jose Miguel Serrano and Dr. Raphael Pierre Idiart, traumatologists at Vithas Xanit, aimed to “train students in performing anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery.”
For his part, Dr. Narváez explains that “these dynamic workshops have provided an opportunity to acquire first-hand practical knowledge from experts, who shared their experience with the students.”
Some of the topics covered in depth during this training were: graft harvesting (hamstring tendons, patellar tendon, and quadriceps tendon); ACL reconstruction and the different options for creating tunnels; anterolateral reinforcements (anterolateral ligament reconstruction and extra-articular lateral tenodesis) and meniscal suture/all-inside suture and outside-in suture).
This training, aimed at resident doctors and specialists in orthopedic surgery and traumatology, began with the development of these topics in four blocks, followed by the practical part with real body parts from cadavers donated to science.
