The traumatology, orthopedic surgery, and sports medicine department at Vithas Xanit International Hospital in Benalmádena has been restructured to offer a more specialized service and improve the patient experience.

The head of the department, Dr. Antonio Narváez, explains that these services have been structured “into highly specialized units, made up of renowned professionals to offer the highest quality care.”

“It is such a broad specialty that, with constant advances being made, it is necessary to divide it into units that are up to date with the most advanced techniques for diagnosing and treating diseases,” says the doctor, who clarifies that “this multidisciplinary approach does not prevent us from sharing cases in our clinical sessions.”

In addition to restructuring the service into nine units, new specialists with extensive experience in each of these areas have been recruited. The service now consists of a total of 19 specialists.

In this regard, the services are structured into the following units: arthroscopic surgery and regenerative medicine, specializing in minimally invasive treatment of joint injuries: shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, ankle, and small joints, led by Dr. Antonio Narváez, with Dr. José Miguel Serrano and Dr. Teresa Villalba also forming part of the team; upper extremity (offering treatments for the hand, elbow, and shoulder, as well as techniques ranging from microsurgery to joint replacements), headed by Dr. Fernández Martín; and the foot and ankle surgery unit, dedicated to injuries such as bunions or Morton’s neuromas and managed by Dr. Rafael Idiart.

A spine surgery unit
